Topps NFL Game Time Is Now Open!

I have been waiting, just like all of you, for about three weeks to figure out exactly how this years game cards will work.  Just like this years baseball, Topps has done away with getting a random card with every code.  Each code gives you a chance to win a card instantly or receive a team coin that can be used to play a weekly NFL score game.  For Better Rules and to Login Here

I only had two codes, I got a Patriots and a Colts coin.  Then I picked a combined points for all games for a tiebreaker.  There seems to be a draw back to us average collector, it always seems that the big hits and autographs always go to the first person or group of people to collect all the coins.  I know I can afford to buy a case of Topps Hobby cards in hopes to get a couple hundred of these code cards.  In this years baseball I have unlocked 21 cards and have only won a single card and traded it for a Tulo right away of course!  I remember going to a hobby store last year, and I asked the owner what he was going to do with all the codes (he had hundreds) just thrown around behind his counter.  He said people opening packs just throw them because they don't want to waste time.  I asked him if I could have some, he said no that he was going to redeem them all sometime soon.  I thought that is kind of shitty because he already made his money selling the pack, and now he may get some pretty cool redemption's.  I ended up spending about $30 on a few packs and he couldn't even throw in a few of the game cards.  It was the last time I went to that mans shop.

Let me know if any of you average collectors get anything good in this years game time Topps game, I'll keep you posted on my end too!

Retail & Blaster Box Break - Vol 1

  • 2008 UD Series 2 Stars and stripes
  • 2009 UD Series 2
  • Tri-Star "the chase" Box
  • 2008 UD Artifacts
  • 2008 Score Football
GAME USED HITS
As for game used hits, I feel I did pretty well.  I got a 2008 UD USA J.P. Ramerez (Nats 15th Round Pick), 2008 UD A Piece of History Box Score Memories Prince Fielder, and a 2009 UD Game Materials Felix Hernandez.  Much better than pulling a usual low end semi-star game used card.

TRI-STAR "The Chase" 16 Packs

I normally wouldn't pick up this item, but for $11.99 it was worth a shot.  The packs above were the packs that were included in the box.  Most of all are what most consider "junk wax" but I don't mind.
  • 1989 Topps
  • 1989 Bowman (2 packs)
  • 1988 Fleer
  • 1988 Fleer Jumbo Pack
  • 1990 Fleer
  • 1987 Topps
  • 1988 Donruss
  • 1990 Donruss
  • 1990 Topps Big
  • 1991 Upper Deck
  • 1989 Score
  • 2008 Tri-Star LO/HI (3 packs)
  • 1989 Donruss
Of course really none of these packs will yield much of anything to really "hoot" about, but I did get a few that did make it worth while.  The next two pictures are the highlights of this box.
(1989 Bowman Ken Griffey Jr. RC / 1987 Topps Kevin Mitchell RC & Will Clark RC)
(2008 Tri-Star Projections David Price, Jamie Garcia, Jay Bruce Reflector, Rick Portcello)

Overall, not too bad by pulling a pro debut David Price, Jay Bruce, and a Griffey Jr. Rookie.

Now I am just going to display some of the more prominent star cards pulled from the rest of the boxes and packs.  The price was just under $60, and all together I think I did real well at having value with the cards that I got! (Plus I added another Tim Tebow Rookie Card!).  I was kind of disappointed though that most of the Starquest cards in the 2009 box were doubles, such as Youklis, Hamels, and Kinsler.  The 2008 Score Football I didn't expect anything great, I got one glossy card per pack, the typical rookies, and inserts.

(I do like the Cole Hamels Goodwin Preview Card)

(For 2.99 I got a bunch of star quarterbacks!)
(3 Legends of NY, Rookie Star, and one 20th)
(Tebow RC, Culter, Ryan, Skelton RC, Shaub, McNabb.  A great 2.99 value pack)

Overall, again I am happy with everything, I got a lot of star cards and great relic cards.  I hope you enjoyed quickly seeing some of the cards that I got from these retail blaster sale boxes!  Does anyone else like picking up any of these sale items, or do you just go in wanting most recent products?

My Inventory Is Now Linkable!

Last month I wanted to somehow make a database that I can really keep track at real time of my collection.  I thought about Excel, but I tried Google Docs (Drive).  What I love is that I can add or subtract cards from my phone, and check my collection from anywhere.  Below is a link, and I will also link this on my favorite links on the right side of the screen if anyone wants to view.  I am almost done inventorying my autographs and jersey portion.  I am going to next start working on the next few weeks my pre 1979 cards, and go on from there.  I figure it will take many many months to get most of it done, but it is a good start.

*Just some examples of my card room.  I place all my cards in ABC order for semi star and star players. I keep my more common cards in organized in closets.  Thanks to my wife for giving me her office!

Usually I only will trade cards I have 2 or more of, I will try to have accurate quantities done in the coming weeks so if you are a regular blog reader and see a card I have 2 or more of just shoot me an email to jasonjasonp12@gmail.com and we can work out a trade!  I am sorry if there if there are any errors or what on the inventory, some of these inputs are done on my phone and formatting may not be accurate.  Prices on the side are just an estimate, if a person has a great rookie year and is listed at $8 book, I just may not have had time to go through each one of my listings to change the prices.  This is mostly for my record for insurance.

Awesome People/Friends - Volume 1

From nowhere I get a package today from someone I haven't heard from in years.  He got this card and knew that I loved Tulo.  He was a friend I had in the army, and he is one of those Boston fans, but I call him a friend anyways.  UPDATED: Finally got the real image of the card that I got posted!

Believe it or not this is my first Topps Tribute Relic card, just so happens to be my favorite player!  I just wanted to share this, and thanks...you know who you are!

WORST Card Set Ever Made! - Volume 1 : 2001 Royal Rookies

I was going to write about something else tonight, but I was going through a box of random cards and came across a set so bad, I wouldn't even let my dog chew them! 2001 Royal Rookies, I don't even know where to start on trying to describe this card set.  There is one plus, there are autographs in this set, 98% of them you have never heard of.  Before I go on, judge a sample for yourself.

It looks like some college kid with a new high speed 33MHz computer running Windows 3.1 made this card.  Nothing says baseball like putting a large watermark of money on the back of a baseball card.  Considering most of all the actual rookie in this set, the amount of money on the back of their baseball card is about the most they made playing.  The real only highlight of the set is an early Miguel Cabrera and autograph.
Now as tradtion when I make fun of a card or a set I make my own card using the high end product of MS-PAINT!  I made this card within 4 minutes, about the same time it took for the orginal designers to make the card.  (I don't own the man image used, just found on google) ENJOY!
This card above is about how I view this epic fail of a baseball card set.
